Promoting Healthy Living
Did you know that Greek and Swedish cultures are amongst the healthiest in the world – influenced by their diet as well as their healthy lifestyle?
Different cultures follow different practices to maintain and enhance a balanced lifestyle. In almost all of these cultures, walking is promoted as a key element of practicing healthy living. In addition, certain cultures actively follow meditation as a good technique to maintaining balance between the body and mind. Meditation is a mind-body practice that has a long history of use for enhancing overall health and well-being. Some studies suggest that it may help reduce blood pressure, may ease symptoms of anxiety and depression, and may help with insomnia. Another good example of healthy living is practicing yoga. Yoga offers physical and mental health benefits for people of all ages.
As part of this focus area, I am sharing my learnings/observation on various healthy living practices being followed by different cultures. I am also organizing experiential projects so that local communities can experience different cultural practices in addition to reading about them. Through these efforts, I intend to broaden the horizons in my local community and provide exposure to global cultures.
